Are you considering liposuction, to remove unsightly fat from targeted problem areas? If so, you'll need to find a qualified plastic surgeon to help you on your way to becoming the new you. To find out if a particular doctor is a good match for you: 1. Check with your state's medical board and verify licensing and if any action of a disciplinary nature has ever been brought against her or him. 2. Check next with your county clerk or your circuit court in your local area to see if the plastic surgeon you are considering has had any medical malpractice suits filed against him or her. For this you may need to go to the courthouse itself. While a malpractice suit doesn't really mean a plastic surgeon is not qualified or is negligent in patient care, three medical malpractice judgments within a five-year period generally means you might want avoid working with this particular plastic surgeon. 3. Verify the credentials and the medical training and cosmetic surgery training of the plastic surgeon you are considering for your liposuction. While the term "board certified" may sound impressive, what board is it and what do they ask or test for to certify the plastic surgeon? 4. Ask the plastic surgeon how many liposuctions she has performed and the result. You might even ask for testimonials and look at before and after photos. 5. Find out if the plastic surgeon has admitting privileges at the hospital of your choice. Don't just ask the plastic surgeon - verify with the hospital as well. 6. Ask your family doctor or other trusted medical professional for recommendations, or what they think of the plastic surgeon you are considering. 7. Find out if the plastic surgeon carries medical malpractice insurance and then verify that fact. 8. Besides the plastic surgeon performing the procedure, you need to know the anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist is well trained, experienced, competent and certified as well. By doing some research into a plastic surgeon's background, you can help ensure a successful liposuction procedure, and minimize the chances that you could experience unnecessary pain and suffering.
