About Tumescent Liposuction

There are several different types of liposuction. Tumescent liposuction is one of the most common. The word "tumescence" refers to the firmness and swelling of a body's fatty tissues when solution has been added to them. Tumescent liposuction usually requires only local anesthesia. The anesthesia is injected into the patient as part of the fluid that is entered into her or his body to create the tumescent state of the tumescent liposuction procedure. Tumescent liposuction can be a lengthy procedure, generally taking longer than traditional liposuction. The volume of fluid that is injected into the patient's body during tumescent liposuction is a greater amount than that of the fat that is being removed from the body. Additionally the anesthesia is injected too, which means the patient doesn't usually have to undergo general anesthesia. Tumescent liposuction, as opposed to other methods, actually decreases the discomfort of your recovery. The local anesthesia's effects last for up to eighteen hours and because of this the patient seldom needs pain medication stronger than over the counter medications such as Tylenol or ibuprofen. You usually won't experience any nausea from tumescent liposuction, either, nor the hang over effect of general anesthesia. Tumescent liposuction reduces procedural bleeding considerably, which reduces the time you'll spend recovering. You won't see as many bruises or swelling after the tumescent liposuction as with other methods either, because of being able to choose local rather than general anesthesia. Ninety percent of tumescent liposuction patients can see results within one week of surgery, although the final effects are not fully realized until six months after the tumescent liposuction. After the recovery period is over, you'll be amazed by the results of tumescent liposuction, as you enjoy your new life with the perfect body you've always dreamed of.
